The postseasons of the Arlington and Fort Calhoun volleyball teams began and ended Monday in subdistrict play.
The Pioneers (15-11 overall) faced Omaha Concordia and Wahoo in C1-4 Subdistrict play, while the Eagles (8-18) took on Logan View/Scribner-Snyder at the C1-5 Subdistrict Tournament at Oakland-Craig High School.
FCHS goes 1-1
Fort Calhoun edged Concordia (7-26) in five sets Monday before falling to the unbeaten, top-seeded Wahoo Warriors in the C1-4 semifinals.
The Pioneers topped the Mustangs 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 18-25 and 15-13. Senior McKenna Greenwell started the fifth set with an ace and Ellie Lienemann ended it when Concordia couldn't return her attack.
Coach James Slie's FCHS squad then lost to the 30-0 Warriors 25-13, 25-19 and 25-11. The loss ended the Pioneer careers of Kaitlin Smith, McKenna Greenwell, Alivia Cullen, Rianna Wells, Megan Johnson and Ellie Lienemann.
Eagles upset in 1st round
Arlington finished October 2-1 against Logan View (7-21), besting the Raiders on the 10th and 15th.
On Monday the 26th, however, fifth-seeded LVSS earned a 3-1 victory over the No. 4 Eagles, ending their season.
Coach Katarina Nelson's team lost the first and second sets — 25-20 and 25-10 — before rebounding and extending their season with a 25-12 third. The campaign would last just one more set, though, as Logan view clinched the match with a 25-14 fourth.
The match loss ended the high school careers of three AHS seniors — Mallory Ruwe, Kali Thomsen and Claire Allen.
Bears host Tuesday
The Blair volleyball team hosts the B-5 Subdistrict bracket Tuesday evening.
The top-seeded Bears (6-20) take on the Schuyler-South Sioux City winner at 6 p.m. at BHS. The Warriors (3-18) are the No. 2 seed, while the Cardinals are the No. 3.
