Twenty-one basketball players from Arlington, Blair and Fort Calhoun High Schools were recognized for their play with the recent release of the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star postseason honors.
Pioneers sophomore Grayson Bouwman was the most distinguished honoree, claiming first-team Class C1 designations from both state publications after he averaged 17.4 points per game this past season. He was also a second team All-Omaha-Area selection by the World-Herald.
Bouwman's senior teammates, Carsen and Zane Schwarz were also recognized in the newspapers. The Journal Star named Carsen a second-team Class C1 performer, while the World-Herald gave both he and his twin brother C1 and All-Omaha-Area honorable mention.
Zane was a Journal Star honorable mention recipient, too.
Fort Calhoun's Tess Skelton — a Nebraska Wesleyan recruit — and Bria Bench were World-Herald honorable mention recipients in both categories as well.
Blair freshman Molly Ladwig, meanwhile, claimed second-team Class B designations from both the Journal Star and World-Herald after scoring 12 points per game. She was an All-Omaha-Area first-teamer.
BHS seniors Mya Larson — who recently competed in the Battle Metro All-Star game — and Makayla Baughman received honorable honorable mention in Class B from both newspapers. Baughman was a second-team All-Omaha-Area performer as well, while both Larson and freshman Addie Sullivan garnered honorable mention.
Sullivan also claimed honorable mention in Class B, too.
On the boys' side, Blair's Jacob Czapla, Luke Ladwig and Kip Tupa earned honorable mention in all three of the aforementioned categories. J'Shawn Unger and Sawyer Lawton were All-Omaha-Area honorable mention recipients, too.
Colby Grefe, Logan Kaup, Dustin Kirk, Keelianne Green, Britt Nielsen, Taylor Arp and Kate Miller of Arlington, meanwhile, all received honorable mention from the Omaha World-Herald in both Class C1 and the All-Omaha-Area categories. Grefe, Kaup and Kirk added Journal Star honorable mention, too.
Washington County basketball players Taylor and Peyton McCabe were recognized by the publications, too. Taylor, a Fremont High senior, was the captain of both the Journal Star's Super State team and the World-Herald's All-Nebraska team. Peyton, an Omaha Skutt sophomore, meanwhile, was a third-team Super State selection and Class B first-teamer.
