NSAA sets wrestling districts

BHS, AHS and FCHS to compete in subdistricts, too

Posted

The NSAA recently released its subdistrict and district assignments for Nebraska high school wrestling teams including those at Blair, Arlington and Fort Calhoun.
The Feb. 13 district tournaments will determine which wrestlers will compete at the Feb. 18-19 Class B and C State Championships in Omaha. The newly established subdistrict tournaments, however, will determine which wrestlers reach the quarterfinals of their district weight class brackets. The new tourneys were created to reduce the number of athletes at the state-qualifier events amid COVID-19 concerns.
Blair's wrestling team will compete at home for the Class B-2 District Tournament on Feb. 13 after traveling to York the week prior for its subdistrict event. The Bears will be up against grapplers from York, Falls City, Omaha Gross, Seward and Wayne to determine four quarterfinalists before then adding competition from Auburn, Minden, Omaha Concordia, Platteview, Ralston and West Point-Beemer in the final tourney before state.
Fort Calhoun and Arlington, meanwhile, will compete in the Class C-1 District Tournament on Feb. 13 in Albion at Boone Central High School. Should Pioneers and Eagles advance that far, they'll compete against Boone Central, Crofton/Bloomfield, David City, Fillmore Central, Grand Island Central Catholic, Madison, Nebraska Christian, North Bend Central, St. Paul, Tekamah-Herman, Tri County, Tri County Northeast, Wisner-Pilger and Wood River.
Before districts, however, FCHS will compete in the C-1 A Subdistrict at David City. There the Pioneers will see Boone Central, David City, Fillmore Central, Grand Island CC, Tekamah-Herman, Tri County and Wood River.
AHS will compete in the C-1 B Subdistrict at North Bend Central prior to the district final. The Eagles will try to reach the quarterfinals of their brackets against Crofton, Madison, Nebraska Christian, North Bend, St. Paul, Tri County Northeast and Wisner-Pilger.
Washington County wrestlers began preseason practices Nov. 16 and are scheduled to begin their seasons Thursday and Friday this week.
