M. Duane “Poppy” Wohlers, 86

Marvin Duane Wohlers, 86 years of Arlington, Neb., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at Nye Legacy in Fremont.

Duane was born on April 26, 1937, to Albert “Pete” Sparks and Freida Wohlers in Missouri Valley, Iowa. He grew up in Beebee Town, Iowa. Duane married Judy B. Allen on August 10, 1963 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Fort Dodge. They lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa; Fremont, Neb.; and Arlington, Neb. Duane drove the school bus for Beebee Town, Iowa, where he met the love of his life, Judy. Duane worked at Hormel Foods, Fremont, Neb., where he worked for 30 years.

Family was the most important and loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly.

Duane was huge Kansas City Royals Fan, as well as a huge Iowa Hawkeye sports fan and an avid baseball card collector. He served for over 20 years on the Arlington Sr. Center Board, serving as the treasurer. He has great pride in his lawn, which he turned into a mowing business. He also enjoyed watching and feeding all the birds that visited his yard. Duane was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he was active and a Sunday Mass usher.

He was preceded by his wife, Judy, and parents.

Duane is survived by sons, Kevin Wohlers of Fremont, Neb., and James (Janene) Wohlers of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters, Lisa Brown of Arlington, Neb., and Lori Buresh of Fremont, Neb.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont, Neb. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary starting at 7 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

Burial will take place at Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, Neb.
