Kies leads BYSS at ECTC shoot

Arlington, Blair marksmen claim top finishes

Marksman Kalvin Kies started the Eastern Cornhusker Trapshooting Conference (ECTC) season Saturday with a high overall championship in Omaha.
The Blair Youth Shooting Sports (BYSS) standout was 93-for-100 at the range, winning the Creighton Prep Invitational. He was 49-for-50 from 16 yards and went 44-50 from his handicap distance.
Kies' Blair Target Terminators team — Harry Kies, Riley Brodersen, Triston Clausen, Tyler Hume and he — took second from 16 yards, too. The Fremont Black squad, meanwhile, took first with Wyatt Widman, Zane Gerrish and John VonBehren of Arlington contributing alongside Jared Adams and Cole Campbell.
Jaydyn Backman and Riley Brodersen of BYSS added second-place individual finishes, too. Backman earned her's from 16 yards in the female division, going 46-for-50 and besting teammate Alyssa Lode in a shootout.
Brodersen, however, was 43-for-50 from 20-21 yards to claim medal at his handicap distance.
In the overall standings, Blair's Evan Brodersen (85 percent), Riley Brodersen (84), Aaron Hinman (83), Henry Valasek (82) and Harry Kies (81) all took out more than 80 percent of the clay targets they saw. Clausen, Hayden White, Colton Nixon, Jase Lantry, Jacob Vanek, Aaron Pierce, Hume, Gaige Bolton, Backman, Revlyn Rasmussen, Gavin Baker and Morgan Shaner of Fort Calhoun were all more than 75-percent accurate, too.
Adams led Fremont in the high overall standings, while Widman was 85-for-100 on Saturday. Gerrish took out 84 targets in Omaha and VonBehren hit 83.
Arlington marksmen Kaleb Dowling and Cyris Sass hit 81 targets for the Fremont Gold and Green lineups as well.
In total, Fremont's Aiden Menking, Cole Campbell, Shane Japp, Kody Meyer, Ben Flesner, Brayden Stonehocker and Tate Johannes also shot at a 75-percent percentage or better.
The Fremont Black lineup was third during the Junior Division shoot in Papillion, too. Drake Daubert, Cade Lynch, Connor McWhirter and Trenton Hansen made up the lineup.
Blair's top Junior marksman was Tregan Baker, who went 43-for-50 with his shotgun. Landry Benoit of Fort Calhoun took out 38 for BYSS, too, while Camden Clements shot 37.
The ECTC schedule continues this Saturday with a shoot at the BYSS range north of Blair.
