The Fort Calhoun and Arlington High School football teams played unbeaten foes Friday night.

Pioneers beat Raymond Central
The Mustangs claimed a 21-7 lead through one quarter Friday, but coach Adolph Shepardson's FCHS football team outscored the home team 38-14 from there, improving to 3-1.
The Pioneers' 45-35 victory was the result of a dominant running game. Clint Dierks and Austin Welchert scored a pair of rushing touchdowns apiece, while Grayson Bouwman scored the game's first from 41 yards out.
Zane Schwarz also scored a Fort Calhoun touchdown, hauling in a 5-yard Ty Hallberg pass on the final play of the first half to help pull the Pioneers even, 28-all.
Welchert then broke that tie on FCHS' first offensive play of the season half. The back took a direct snap and sprinted 53 yards to the end to give the visiting team a 35-28 lead.
The advantage grew on a fourth-quarter safety and Dierks' second touchdown run of the contest. Then, in the end, Landon Miller and Schwarz registered back-to-back sacks to dash any hopes of a Mustang comeback with less than 2 minutes to go.
The Pioneers next play Boys Town during the first week of district competition. The Friday night game will be Calhoun's homecoming contest.

Eagles fall at No. 1
Top-ranked Pierce jumped out to a 45-7 halftime lead and defeated the visiting Arlington Eagles 58-13. Coach Colter Mattson's squad scored late during the first half and then again early on during the fourth quarter.
The loss dropped AHS to 2-2 this fall. The Eagles next play Friday at Logan View in district competition.
