FRIDAY STATE UPDATE: 4 more county wrestlers advance to medal rounds

Posted

Six Washington County wrestlers will stand on a podium Saturday during the final day of the NSAA State Wrestling Championships in Omaha.
While Blair's Tyson Brown and Atticus Dick guaranteed themselves top-six medals Thursday, Blair's Savanah Roan (130 pounds) and Blaise Baughman (175), Arlington's Kelise Krivohlavek (125) and Merritt Olberding (106) of Fort Calhoun added their names to the list Friday at the CHI Health Center. They won third-round consolation matches and will next compete 9 a.m. Saturday in consolation semifinals before the third- and fifth-place matches to follow.
Notably, Krivohlavek and Roan are their schools' first-ever medalists in the NSAA girls tournament.
Brown and Dick will close their state tournaments in third- or fifth-place matches, too, after semifinal defeats Friday night. Brown fell by 5-2 decision to Omaha Skutt 138-pounder Christian Ramos, while Dick dropped a 2-1 overtime match to 150-pounder Garrett Rine of Waverly in the tiebreaker.
Blair's Tannon Bellamy and Ali Wheeler, and Arlington's Kolton Gilmore, also competed in third-round consolation matches Friday night, but fell short. The Eagles' Brooklyn Ruskamp and Braxton Soll, and the Pioneers' Presley Olberding and Gage Nixon, were eliminated from medal contention earlier in the day as well.
