Trevor Denker set an unofficial Class B state record Tuesday night as the Arlington baseball team hosted and defeated Thurston-Cuming County at the Washington County Fairgrounds.
The junior slugger hit a homer and had two doubles during his 4-for-5 night, totaling a record-best 10 RBIs during the 19-9 Eagles victory.
Omaha Skutt's Ryan Moritz held the previous Class B mark with seven RBIs against Omaha Roncalli in 2016, according to records dated March 2021 on the NSAA website. When contacted by Enterprise Media Group, record-keeper Stu Pospisil of the Omaha World-Herald confirmed 10 RBIs would be the new mark to beat.
Denker also scored two runs during AHS' 10-run victory, which pushed its season record to 3-5.
The Eagles' Braden Monke, meanwhile, went 4-for-5 with three RBIs against Thurston-Cuming County. Nick Smith (three), Logan Kaup (three) and Kaden Pittman (two) had multi-hit games as well.
A day earlier, Arlington beat GACC/SS/WPB 10-8 in 11 innings. AHS ended the marathon game with a 3-1 11th.
Kaup led coach Tyler Stender's Eagles team on the road Monday, batting 4-for-6 with four RBIs. He doubled once as did Denker, Pittman and Dalton Newcomer. Denker and Smith scored three runs apiece.
Pittman earned the pitching win, too. The Arlington hurler threw three innings with three strikeouts. Grange Suhr struck out four more West Point batters in two innings, while Jack Bang tallied two Ks in six.
