The Gold Diggers Volleyball Club age 15 and younger team competed during the 1999 Asics Colorado Crossroads Junior National Qualifier.
“Of the 545 select volleyball teams that traveled to Colorado Springs last month, one of them did its best to make Arlington proud,” the Citizen newspaper reported.
Coach Lynn Johnson's squad of eighth- and ninth-graders played for three days at the event and finished 21st out of 68 teams from across the United States. The Gold Diggers were 45-23 entering the tourney and went 7-10 at it, dropping a 15-11, 4-15 and 15-12 match in their finale.
Altogether, the Arlington volleyball team faced teams from Texas, Colorado, Utah, Illinois, Indiana and Lincoln during the tournament.
