STATE XC UPDATE: 2 Washington County runners medal in Kearney

County football teams close regular season, too

Arlington junior Hailey O’Daniel and Fort Calhoun freshman Raeann Massey earned top-10 individual medals Friday during the NSAA State Cross-Country Championships in Kearney.
O’Daniel was seventh in the Class C girls race, while Massey finished just 6.5 seconds behind in eighth. The athletes finished 5-kilometers in 20:59.2 and 21:05.7, respectively.
The FCHS boys, meanwhile, earned Washington County’s top team finish. They were fourth in Class C, while the Arlington boys and Blair girls were seventh in C and Class B, respectively.
The Pioneer girls were 14th in C, too.
Gage Nixon led the Calhoun boys in 32nd, while Chris Post-Whiteowl was 33rd and Will Dennis took 35th. Lawson Tjardes claimed 49th as well, while Seth Waters earned 58th and Travis Skelton was 73rd.
Arlington’s top male finisher was Nolan May. He was 23rd, while Kolby Tighe was 30th and Dallin Franzluebbers finished 60th. Kevin Flesner (69th), John Morrison (72nd) and Trey Hill (76th) ran for the Eagles in Kearney, too.
Reece Ewoldt, meanwhile, led the Blair girls with a 16th-place effort in 20:14.5. The senior finished just one spot out of a Class B individual medal, while Allie Czapla closed out her prep career in 25th. Jade Wickwire took 39th, Ryen Anderson was 54th and Nadia Davey finished 63rd. Ryleigh Schroeter was 84th, too.
Behind Massey, Maelie Nelson was 59th for the FCHS girls. Harley Schwarte earned 84th, Emily Barca was 99th and Bella McLaughlin was 115th. Brady Work also started Friday’s race for the Pioneers.

FOOTBALL RESULTS
Fort Calhoun 30, Boys Town 29: On Thursday, Preston Johnson caught a 2-point conversion attempt with no time remaining to give the Pioneers a one-point road win to close the season. Grayson Bouwman caught three touchdown passes from Adam Elofson, too, as the Pioneers finished the fall 3-6.
Elkhorn North 35, Blair 7: The one-loss Wolves dropped the Bears to 5-4 during both teams’ regular season finales. Brady Brown scored BHS’ lone touchdown on a 33-yard pass from Bode Soukup. Blair starts postseason play next week.
Douglas County West 46, Arlington 12: Jacob Beans and Josh Hamre scored touchdowns, but the Eagles closed the season 1-8 overall.
