The Arlington boys’ 3,200-meter relay team led the Eagles to a first-day lead Friday at the NSAA Class C State Track and Field Championships in Omaha.
Through six of 17 events at Burke Stadium, AHS leads second-place Lincoln Lutheran, 26-25.5.
Kevin Flesner, Kaden Foust, Dallin Franzluebbers and Nolan May led the boys’ showing with the aforementioned 2-mile relay victory. They set a school record with a time of 8:06.88.
Foust and May added individual medals Friday, too. Foust was fourth in the 400-meter dash, while May took second in the individual 3,200 ahead of sixth-place teammate Kolby Tighe.
The Eagle girls, meanwhile, are tied for eighth in the team standings through six events. Freshman Hayley Arp earned fourth in the Class C discus, while Whitney Wollberg was sixth in the pole vault, clearing the bar set at 10 feet.
AHS’ state meet continues 11:30 a.m. Saturday when Foust competes in the long jump and Arp participates in the shot put. Flesner, Trey Hill, Hailey O’Daniel, May and Tighe will run individual races, too, before both of the Eagles’ 1,600 relay teams run at approximately 5:55 p.m.
