The Blair High School boys’ 3,200-meter relay team and Greta Galbraith earned top-three finishes Wednesday, highlighting Washington County’s first day of the NSAA Class B State Track & Field Championships.
First, Galbraith set a new personal best in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet for third in Class B at Omaha Burke Stadium. The junior’s new height topped her previous best by a foot and earned the Bears’ first six points of the championship meet.
The team of Zac Keeling, Ted Lueders, Caleb Funk and Nolan Slominski then claimed eight points for the BHS boys in the 2-mile relay. The Bears clocked in at 7:57.39 for second overall.
Ethan Baessler and Reese Beemer, meanwhile, earned top finishes in the sprints Wednesday to qualify for Thursday’s 100- and 200-meter dash finals. The approximate start time of those events is listed below.
Arlington, however, had a pair of 10th-place finishes to highlight its first day of Class B competition. Taylor Arp was 10th in discus with an attempt covering 117 feet, 1 inch.
The 3,200-meter relay team of Kevin Flesner, Dallin Franzluebbers, Luke Hammang and Nolan May, meanwhile, finished 10th in 8:16.26.
Senior Ely Olberding represented Fort Calhoun in Omaha, too, finishing 17th in the individual 3,200 run — his last high school race.
Washington County’s involvement in the second day of the state championship meet begins 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The full schedule of events and county participants is below.
