Arlington names new cheer, dance teams
Cheer and dance team tryouts at Arlington High School are complete.
The school announced its 2024-25 rosters for both teams Monday. The cheer team includes Alexis Schultz, Ally Meyer, Britt Nielsen, Caitlyn Camp, Eliza Ricker, Emme Timm, Gracen Adams, Leah Franzluebbers, Macy Wolf, Maddie Martens, Rachelle Praus, Reid Lancaster, Rylie Kyllo, Sophie Lewis and Valeria Carvajal.
The dance team, meanwhile, will be Jodi Jones, Savannah Lang, Tessa Spivey, Kallan Reed, Corinne Crosland, Libby Stork, Lacey Bosshart, Brooklyn Ruskamp, Addie Thomas and Miley Haden.

Local wrestlers set for Heartland National Duals
A number of Washington County wrestlers will compete today and Saturday during the Heartland National Duals event at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Those set to wrestle on their Nebraska teams are Baeli Gossman, Lily Warren, David Standen, Easton Kruse, Trey Logan, Tanner Meyer and Landon Bernasek. Gossman and Bernasek are from Fort Calhoun, while Warren, Standen and Kruse compete on Blair Youth Wrestling Club's team. Logan is a Westside Wrestling Club wrestler from Blair and Tanner Meyer wrestles in Arlington.

Laaker to lead AHS girls wrestling
Arlington High School recently announced Layne Laaker as its new head girls wrestling coach.
The former Eagles assistant takes over for Doug Hart, who's led both the girls and boys squads each of the past two seasons. Laaker has also served as an assistant football coach at the school.

BHS celebrates athletic trainer
Blair High School celebrated Mark Kwikkel recently, thanking him for his work with the Bears during National Athletic Training Month.
Students lined the BHS gymnasium as Kwikkel entered it, cheering him on in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“Happy Athletic Trainer Month to the very best!” the @BHSBlair post read. “We are so fortunate to have you at BHS, Mr. Kwikkel!”
