Ogle's North squad wins Shrine Bowl
Class of 2022 Blair standout Wyatt Ogle strapped on his Bears helmet one final time Saturday during the Nebraska Shrine Bowl at the University of Nebraska-Kearney's Ron and Carol Cope Stadium.
The left tackle started for the victorious North squad, who scored a 17-15 win on a fourth-quarter safety.
“It was good to see him play at 100 percent again,” BHS coach Bryan Soukup said.
Ogle played injured last fall before correcting the issue with surgery and rehab during his senior basketball season.
“Last fall, he basically played as the one-armed man,” Soukup said.
That wasn't the case during the Shrine Bowl, an annual all-star game benefitting Shriners Hospitals for Children. The Blair coach noted the future Wayne State Wildcat's strong play.
“It was a great game for such a great cause,” Soukup said.
He said Ogle will be a tough player to replace in the Bears' program for all he did on the field, including his leadership.

Swim teams take to pool
Youth swimming teams in both Blair and Arlington started practice this week.
The Blair Barracudas were set to start their five-day-a-week practice schedule 8 a.m. Monday at the Blair Municipal Pool, while Arlington was to start its scheduled practices on the same day at the Arlington Swimming Pool.
Overall, Blair will take part in five meets this summer. Most are scheduled for Saturday mornings through mid-July.

More drivers compete in auto racing
Washington County's list of drivers competing on local auto racing tracks is long.
In addition to those published in the May 31 Pilot-Tribune edition, Will Duros, Ellie Duros, Caleb Woodward, Zach Imig and Daniel Hoevet are competing this spring and summer, too.
As of last week, Woodward — a Blair driver — is second in the Cage Blue Wazoom standings at Eagle Raceway on the Mini “E” track. Imig, meanwhile, is fourth in the Flat Adult Cone standings as fellow Fort Calhoun driver Will Duros sits sixth on the Cage Jr. 2 points leaderboard.
Ellie Duros is 20th in the Cage Jr. 1 standings as well.
Elsewhere, at Tuxedo Park Raceway in Crete, Daniel Hoevet of Blair is third in the Flat-Mod standings. He is also fifth in Flat Adult Hoosier Predator points, too.
