Sports in brief: Eagles pitcher signs with Hawks

Northeast Community College softball coach Iris Woodhead visited Arlington High School last week to celebrate the signing of senior Rylee Fuehrer.
The pitcher will join Norfolk's Hawks after going 10-6 with a 4.86 ERA this past season. She struck out 71 batters, while also batting at a .350 average with 14 RBIs.
Fuehrer recently claimed All-Nebraska Cornhusker Conference and all-state honors. She was a first-team all-conference honoree, while also claiming Class C honorable mention from the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star.
Northeast competes in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. Coach Woodhead is assisted by Jade Wilken.

Blair presents football awards
The Blair High School football team recently announced its team awards for the 2023 fall season.
The offensive MVPs were quarterback Bode Soukup and back Brock Templar. The defensive MVP, meanwhile, was Riley Wolff as Ethan Baessler earned the special teams award.
Senior Will Madsen earned the Bear Award, which represents the fighting spirit of a Blair Bear. Soukup, Ben Holcomb, Thomas Chikos, Cooper Sorensen, Carson Faue and Blaise Baughman had their teammates' backs and earned The 6 Award, too.
Braden McGill the most inspirational player, while Keenan Wyman earned most-improved. McGill and Chikos were the linemen of the year. Crayton Macholan, Wyman, Brock Hamm and Brady Wolff were the lifters of the year.
Macholan and Chikos earned academic all-state honors, too. Soukup, Templar, Baessler, Chikos and McGill claimed all-district honors as well.

Ex-Bear earns NSIC All-Conference honors
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) recently announced former Blair High School multi-sport standout Dex Larsen to its all-conference football first team.
The junior linebacker leads the Wayne State College Wildcats in total tackles with 91, according to a school release. He's forced and recovered two fumbles, too.
Larsen scored a defensive touchdown during a win against Concordia-St. Paul as well, returning a fumble 20 yards.
