FCHS drops 5-set match to Logan View
The Logan View/Scribner-Snyder volleyball team outlasted the Fort Calhoun Pioneers on Thursday in a five-set Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament consolation game.
FCHS (8-16 overall) fell 3-2, dropping the home match 25-23, 11-25, 25-17, 21-25 and 15-11. The Raiders improved to 10-16 with the win.
Pioneers freshman Emilee Thayer-Mencke had three first-set kills, pulling her team within 24-23 late. Logan View won, though, taking a 1-0 lead before Calhoun dominated the second.
FCHS senior Shelby Dorau notched a block and kill back-to-back for a 23-10 second-set lead before Ansley Elofson notched a kill at 24-11. Dorau then scored set point with another productive attack.
A Raegen Wells kill pulled the Pioneers within 23-16 in the third set, but the Raiders won it by eight.
Later, in the fourth set, Calhoun and Logan View battled back-and-forth. Dorau's kill made it 20-18 before an errant Raider serve gave the Pioneers a chance to win the match in the fifth.
The road team then led the majority of the final set, though, securing the victory.
The Pioneers next play at Conestoga today before a home triangular Thursday against Logan View and Wisner-Pilger. The home matches start at 5 p.m.
