The Fremont High School swimming team started the 2024 portion of its winter schedule Thursday with a pair of second-place finishes in Lincoln.
The Tigers fell short of Lincoln Pius X boys and girls during the road triangular, but outscored both Lincoln North Star teams.
“Tigers had a good first meet of the new year,” coach David Struble said. “We are training hard through these dual and triangular meets. January is a grind-it-out month with several meets and tough practices.”
Like in 2023, Blair and Arlington student-athletes played key roles in the Tigers' successes in Lincoln. Jane Busboom and Ryleigh Schroeter of BHS earned four first-place finishes apiece. Busboom won the individual 500-yard freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, while also joining teammates for 200-yard medley and free relay victories.
Schroeter, meanwhile, joined Busboom in the same relay wins. She also took the 100-yard backstroke first and swam faster than her competition in the 50 freestyle.
Arlington's Lizzie Meyer claimed four gold medals, too. She was on three top relay teams — the 200 medley, the 200 freestyle and the 400 free — and won the individual 100 freestyle in 58.48 seconds.
On the boys' side, Jacob Hanson of Blair claimed Washington County's lone event win. He topped the 100-yard backstroke standings in 1:04.37.
The Bear and Dathan Hansen of AHS also earned second-place relay finishes. Hansen claimed a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, too, clocking in at 1:18.06.
