Blair, Arlington athletes help Fremont to dual split

It got a bit emotional Tuesday during the Fremont High School swimming team's home dual against Millard South.
“I've never swam that fast before,” the Tigers' Jane Busboom said after winning the 50-yard freestyle in 25.1 seconds. The Blair High School swimmer sought happy embraces from family after automatically qualifying for state in the event. She and fellow Blair Bear Ryleigh Schroeter made the state championship cut during Fremont's 91-88 dual win as did Arlington senior Lizzie Meyer.
BHS' Jacob Hanson and Eagle Dathan Hansen also contributed in the pool for the Tigers against the Patriots, but the boys team fell, 106-69.
“The swimmers are training hard through these meets and still showing flashes of fast swimming,” FHS coach David Struble wrote in his post-dual recap.
In addition to her 50 freestyle qualification, Busboom earned a state spot in the 100-yard backstroke, stopping the clock in 59.07. She also earned a win alongside Meyer, Schroeter and Madelyn Buck in the 400 freestyle relay and a state qualification in the 200 medley relay with Schroeter, Meyer and Charlotte Vech. The latter team clocked in at 1:53.91.
Schroeter, meanwhile, claimed state automatic times in both the individual 200 freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. The Blair junior won the events in 2:00.57 and 1:00.5, respectively.
Meyer will go to state in the 200 medley relay with her teammates, but also earned second in the individual 50 and 100 freestyles Tuesday evening.
On the boys' side, Hanson won the 200 IM in 2:16.2. The BHS student-athlete also claimed three second-place results against Millard South, including in the individual 100 freestyle.
Hansen, notably, led his team in the 100-yard breaststroke with a third-place effort. The Arlington Eagles was also second in the 400 free relay with Hanson, Micah Moore and Elliot Vech.
The Tigers next compete Saturday in Elkhorn.
