County swimmers keep busy schedule with FHS

Fremont High School swimmers were busy to start the week with a rescheduled dual Monday at Lincoln East before a Tuesday evening home competition against Lincoln Northeast.
After Monday's swims, Tigers coach David Struble noted the Spartans as the best team in the Heartland Athletic Conference. East won the dual with his team, but he also noted FHS event wins earned by Blair student-athletes Jane Busboom and Ryleigh Schroeter, and Arlington senior Lizzie Meyer.
Busboom won the 100-yard butterfly race in 1:06.27, while Schroeter earned the 100 freestyle race in 55.66 seconds ahead of fifth-place teammate Kami Spilinek.
Meyer took first in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at 1:06.41, too.
BHS Tiger Jacob Hanson, meanwhile, was third in the 500-yard freestyle for his best finish. Dathan Hansen of AHS took fourth in the 100 backstroke, too, stopping the clock in 1:13.73.
On Tuesday at home, Fremont split its dual with Northeast with the girls picking up a win. Busboom won the 200 freestyle, Meyer claimed first in the 500 freestyle and Schroeter tied for the win in the 50 free.The latter swimmer also won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.
Hanson won the 50 freestyle against the Rockets, too, while Hansen was third in the 100 backstroke.
Last Saturday, Fremont swam at Lincoln High during the Gene Cotter Invitational, too. Both teams earned third, while the Lincoln Northeast boys and Grand Island girls earned first-place finishes.
Busboom, Meyer and Schroeter all swam with Charlotte Vech to earn second in the 200-yard medley relay before claiming top-three individual finishes. Busboom clocked in at 59.64 in the 100-yard backstroke for second and also took third during the 200 IM.
Meyer, meanwhile, was third in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races. The AHS senior finished them in 26.06 and 57.54 seconds, respectively.
Schroeter earned a bronze medal, too, taking third in the 200 freestyle. She touched the wall to stop the clock at the 2:02.8 mark.
On the boys' side, Hanson earned an individual sixth-place result in the 200-yard freestyle. His FHS teammate, Elliot Vech, won the event.
