The NSAA Board of Directors voted on a number of high school sports items Thursday during its April meeting.
It approved shot clocks for all classes in basketball, two classifications in girls wrestling, sites for state golf and the addition of five schools in various Class B sports, according to the NSAA and the Omaha World-Herald.
“Additionally, on a 6-2 vote, the interim tag was removed from Executive Director Jennifer Schwartz,” Stu Pospisil of the World-Herald reported on omaha.com. “She will receive a two-year contract.”
Blair's Class B hoops schedule included a 30-second shot clock this past season, but Class C schools like Arlington and Fort Calhoun will have one for the first time during the 2024-25 season.
After three seasons with one girls wrestling class, the still-new NSAA-sanctioned sport will have two next school year. Blair and Arlington girls wrestling programs are now two seasons old, while FCHS had its first season this past winter.
Notably, Scottsbluff/Gering, Grand Island and Columbus will host NSAA Boys State Golf Championships through the 2028 season after the NSAA Board of Directors voted 8-0 to approve their bids.
“A fourth community host is to be determined,” an NSAA social media post stated.
Lastly, competing alongside BHS in Class B boys basketball next season will be Nebraska City, Omaha Gross, Aurora, Douglas County West and Wahoo, according to the World-Herald. Lincoln Standing Bear, Gross, Aurora, Sidney and Platteview will play Class B girls basketball and volleyball next school year, too.
