The Arlington Swim Team earned second out of seven squads in the small-team division of the East Husker Conference Championships on Saturday.
“It was hot and the competition was very tough,” coach John Morrison said of the Wayne meet.
Alex Blake led his 13-swimmer Arlington lineup with three wins across his four individual events. He scored 38 team points and took home the age 8 and younger boys high-point trophy.
“We saw a lot of personal bests today for a lot of our kids, which is what you hope for at this meet,” Morrison said.
Brileigh Elliott, for example, won the age 8 and younger backstroke, while also claiming fifth in the breaststroke. Dominic and Miranda Morrison claimed multiple top-six finishes in the ages 11-12 division, too, their coach said.
Arlington's Tristan Schakat was a top-six finisher in each of his age 9-10 events, too, while Taevyn Elliot was fourth and fifth in two individual age 13-14 events.
“Marissa Blake, Abby Schakat, Teagan Reed, Rownan Reed, Isaac Hansen, Paxley Johnston and Brandt Ruskamp all earned top-six finishes and contributed big time to the team success today,” Morrison added.
Other season-long team members who did not compete in Wayne are Tripp Roberts, Brayden Peters, Aria Castaneda and Eli Hansen. Coach Morrison said he was proud of the kids, and wanted to publicly thank his wife Ashley for her assistant coach work as well as the team's parents for their support.
