The West Point-Beemer Cadets scored on the first offensive play of the game, but the Arlington junior high football team won its season finale Oct. 10, 14-6.
The Eagles closed the fall campaign 4-2 overall after a pair of Peyton Marfisi touchdowns. The eighth-grader scored first during the first half when Tanner Meyer got his fingertips on a West Point punt, according to Arlington coach Jake Polk.
Marfisi returned the kick 55 yards from there, tying the game at 6-all before Barron Schmidt's extra-point kick.
Then, during the fourth quarter, the Eagles added to their lead. Marfisi took a toss and ran 35 yards for a score.
Arlington's defense ensured 14 points was enough, too. Eighth-grader Cameron Wirsen had two interceptions and a fumble recovery, while seventh-grader Brantley Fullner also picked off a pass.
“We as coaches wish the eigth graders the best of luck as they move onto high school football next year, and look forward to working with the seventh graders and building off of the success from this season,” Polk said.
