Arlington boys take 6th at wrestling dual tourney

3 Eagles go unbeaten at Kearney Catholic

The Arlington High School boys wrestling team went 2-3 across five duals Saturday during the Kearney Catholic Invitational.
The Eagles bested Cross-County/Osceola 60-12 and the host Stars 48-34, but lost duals to Wilber-Clatonia (51-27), Burwell (48-34) and Gibbon (39-34) in the fifth-place matchup. Coach Doug Hart's squad was sixth, while St. Paul and Wilber-Clatonia finished first and second, respectively.
Altogether, six AHS wrestlers finished with winning records in contested Invitational matches. Kolton Gilmore, Braxton Soll and Stokely Lewis left Kearney unbeaten.
Gilmore was 4-0 at 165 pounds. The senior notched three pins and a 10-0 major decision against Burwell's Trentin Brown.
Soll, meanwhile, earned three wins at 126 pounds. He pinned two opponents and edged Wilber-Clatonia's Logan Zimmerman by 4-3 decision.
Lewis also went 3-0, pinning three-straight wrestlers at 190 pounds. He finished Joaquin Alvarez of Cross-County in 67 seconds.
Additionally, Arlington's Tanner Kyllo (3-2), Jake Flesner (2-1) and Tate Johannes (2-1) finished with more wins than losses. Kyllo's three wins all came by first-period pins.
Cameron Hancock and Brodie Wilkins added contested victories, too, while Haydn Hegemann and Zane Gerrish earned team points by forfeit.
The Eagles next compete in 2024. They host Oakland-Craig and Stanton on Jan. 4 for a 6 p.m. triangular.
