One night after a walk-off loss, Arlington Eagle Zach Vanek and his baseball classmates celebrated Senior Night with a walk-off win at the Washington County Fairgrounds.
The Eagles beat Platte Valley 10-9 on Tuesday when the senior delivered a game-ending knock during the seventh inning. He'd also struck out five Patriots during a six-inning stint on the pitching mound.
AHS' Trevor Denker and Nick Smith, meanwhile, led coach Tyler Stender's team at the plate. Denker logged two RBIs and scored two runs, while Smith was 3-for-5 with identical RBI and run totals.
Senior Eagles Wesley Martens, Josh Miller, Grant Martens, Aiden Foreman and Vanek were celebrated during the home game. Their parents joined them on the field for introductions and a photo opportunity.

After four scoreless innings in a row, Arlington produced a nine-run sixth inning, added the go-ahead during the top of the seventh frame and still lost by walk-off Monday in Springfield. Platteview earned the 12-11 victory with a two-run seventh.
Dustin Kirk led the Eagles with four hits in defeat, while Denker, Miller and Foreman notched two RBIs apiece. Kirk and Denker also combined for nine strikeouts from the pitching mound, but AHS logged its 14th loss of 2021.
