The winter sports season rolls on and I’ve got three new Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week to tell you all about.
The Washington County honorees this week are Bria Bench, Jane Busboom and Macy Wolf.
Bria Bench, Fort Calhoun basketball: The senior led her team in scoring last Tuesday against Yutan with 12 points, but its her clutch shooting that has her on this webpage. The Pioneer’s 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation tied Saturday’s game with Class D1 No. 8 Bancroft-Rosalie, allowing FCHS the ability to win in overtime, which it did. Special mention goes to Ansley Elofson and Raeann Massey who scored 18 points apiece against the Panthers, too.
Jane Busboom, Fremont swimming: The Blair High School junior told me she swam faster than she ever has Tuesday during the Tigers’ first home dual of the season. The swimmer set automatic state-qualifying times in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyles, while also winning two relay races with her teammates. Special recognition goes to BHS basketball standout Addie Sullivan, who scored 27 points against Omaha Gross, and unbeaten Flatwater Fracas wrestlers Tyson Brown and Blaise Baughman. Tough week to pick, huh?
Macy Wolf, Arlington basketball: The Eagle produced team-bests in scoring across two wins, including a 54-47 upset of Class C1 No. 7 Douglas County West. She scored 33 points altogether with 19 against Tekamah-Herman, too. Special recognition goes to wrestler Kolton Gilmore, who went 5-0 this past week. This probably isn’t the last time you’ll read his name here this year either. He's off to a great start.
