Great athletes excel when the stakes are highest and the latest Nannen Physical Therapy Athletes of the Week did just that.
Raeann Massey, Bria Scott and Hailey O’Daniel all competed and proved themselves as top-tier on the state stage this past week.

Raeann Massey, Fort Calhoun cross-country: The eighth-place cross-country runner in Class C is a freshman Pioneer. Massey finished the 5-kilometer Kearney Country Club course in 21:05.7, capping a breakout first high school season. Special mention goes to Adam Elofson, Grayson Bouwman and Preston Johnson of the FCHS football team who had an unforgettable Thursday night, which you can read about in Tuesday’s Washington County Pilot-Tribune.

Bria Scott, Blair softball: The Bears fell short last Monday during the Class B State Championship in Omaha, but this senior stepped up at the plate against Grand Island Northwest. She was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Special mention goes to Scott’s teammates — specifically Sophia Wrich, Leah Chance and Tessa McMillen who played lights out and delivered huge hits in the title game — and Reece Ewoldt of the Blair cross-country squad, who finished 16th at state.

Hailey O’Daniel, Arlington cross-country: Washington County’s top state cross-country finisher was seventh in Class C with a time of 20:59.2. The three-time state medalist continues to add accomplishments. Special mention, however, goes to Nolan May and Kevin Flesner of the cross-country team, too. Both seniors have contributed at a high level since they were freshman and I’m sure will be missed by their coaches and teammates.

Congrats to these standouts. They’ve made their mark and will continue to, I’m sure.
