Zam Driver Turned Writer: Busy month lies ahead

Posted

Basketball, wrestling and swimming season is underway.
By the time you read this, our Washington County student athletes have hooped, grappled and hit the water to start the 2021-22 NSAA winter sports season. Oh, how sweet it is.
As a reminder, the finest way to support these kids from Blair, Arlington and Fort Calhoun is not to just read their stories in my Enterprise Media Group stories. It's to show up and cheer them on.
I — and the Bears, Eagles and Pioneers — love to see a big crowd, and you can be apart of one with a relatively inexpensive admission fee. Then, if you so choose, you can read my story and match the inside perspective to your own, learning new details behind your team's win or loss. It's actually quite interesting and something I do often after watching my favorite college and pro teams on TV or in person.
With the holidays coming up, it really is an exciting time of year with so many sports and so much cheer ahead. I'll now be extremely busy across the next 30 days or so, but I don't want this column to go on any longer without anything of substance even if it was written during the calm before the storm.
So, without any further delay, here's a few notes that recently found their way into my email inbox.

Neujahr is state's 1st female PGA president
Dawn Neujahr recently became the Nebraska Section PGA's first elected female president.
The Champions Run golf professional and merchandiser claimed the position during an annual fall meeting at Happy Hollow Club in Omaha. She is the first female president in the 96-year history of Nebraska Section PGA.
Neujahr's Champions Run is an eight-time Merchandiser of the Year-Private Award Winner during her tenure there. The golfer has also been involved in the Section's governance, serving on junior golf, public relations, player development and various tournament committees, according to a PGA release.
The new president was also the first woman to be elected as the Section's secretary in 2017.
“When I ran for office four years ago, my goal was not to just be the first woman, but I felt it was my time to give back to our Association that has afforded me a wonderful career and some amazing life experiences,” Neujahr said. “I want to help continue the vision of the former leaders of our Section and keep us moving forward in the community and growing the game.”

Commission seeks input on pheasant management
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is seeking public input on its updated draft pheasant management plan, according to a recent release.
The Berggren Plan, honoring the late Lynn Berggren, has a goal to improve the Nebraska pheasant hunting experience during the next five years. Its primary emphasis is to improve habitat and increase public access with several priority areas through out the state.
Game and Parks is hosting a Dec. 8 virtual public informational meeting online at outdoornebraska.gov/pheasantplan. Attendees should register online in advance of the 7 p.m. meeting. Feedback may be submitted through the aforementioned link or by emailing upland game program manager John Laux at john.laux@nebraska.gov. Comments may be provided through Dec. 15.
