Weather, staff absenteeism lead to basketball postponements

The weekend's basketball games didn't stand a chance.
Even before the first flurry, Washington County's slate of weekend basketball games were postponed by the end of Thursday night.
Syracuse informed Arlington of the first postponement, which put off the Eagles' Saturday road trip. News Channel Nebraska reported “a sudden spike in illness and unpredictable weather,” for the school's weekend closure.
Weather concerns canceled Friday classes at Blair High School, too, which put a stop to the Bears' road trip to Norris High School. It also led to a Saturday postponement of a freshman boys basketball game between BHS and Fort Calhoun.
The FCHS girls' Friday evening game against Cedar Bluffs was pushed back as well. Officials first moved the game up to 4:30 p.m. from 6 in an effort to avoid the harshest weather, but ultimately called it off — at least for Friday. A makeup date wasn't immediately announced.
Blair varsity basketball teams are expected to return to the court today at Omaha Concordia. The girls' game is set for a 6 p.m. tip before the boys' at approximately 7:30.
Arlington, meanwhile, hosts basketball games against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder today, beginning with 4:30 p.m. junior varsity competition.
Also today, Fort Calhoun hosts a varsity girls and boys doubleheader against Omaha Brownell-Talbot. The girls' game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
