SUBDISTRICT UPDATE: FCHS volleyball advances as Eagles finish up

The Fort Calhoun High School volleyball team earned a second postseason match Monday night, while the Arlington Eagles’ season came to a close.
At Omaha Concordia, the Pioneers (10-18 overall) swept Louisville (13-16) 3-0 to earn a second-round game against the host Mustangs in Class C1 Subdistrict 2 Tournament play. The matchup starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
On Monday, though, FCHS beat the Lions 25-15, 25-22 and 25-22. Sophie Weeks’ ace serve ended the second set, while Louisville hit the ball out of bounds at the end of the match.
Meanwhile, in Ashland, Arlington’s 7-22 season ended with a 3-0 loss to Douglas County West (17-12) in Class C1 Subdistrict 3 Tournament competition. The Falcons won it 25-13, 25-13 and 25-18.
AHS, notably, opened the match with a 6-2 advantage. Peyton Timm had back-to-back ace serves before Macy Wolf notched a kill.
In the end, though, DC West advanced to play Palmyra, while the Eagles’ season came to a close.

Bears start postseason play Tuesday
Class B Subdistrict 1 Tournament play begins Tuesday for the Blair Bears.
Coach Jess Lansman’s team plays Bennington at 6:30 p.m. at Elkhorn North High School. The winner plays the host Wolves or Schuyler on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
BHS is 17-15 this season. It is the Bears’ winningest season in more than two decades.
