Fourteen Washington County wrestlers competed in their first matches of the NSAA State Girls Wrestling Championships in Omaha on Tuesday.
Three of those wrestlers — Fort Calhoun’s Madi Larrick and Beckah Gossman, and Arlington’s Kelise Krivohlavek — won two bouts apiece, advancing onto their weight classes’ semifinals round.
Larrick earned a pin and a 22-15 overtime decision at 130 pounds in Class B. She tied her second match against Battle Creek’s Lilly Mefford at 15-all as time expired during the third period and secured a quick takedown in OT.
Gossman, meanwhile, earned two pins at 145 pounds. She is 45-3 this season.
Krivohlavek is 35-1 after two Class B pins Tuesday, too. The 120-pounder beat Tekamah-Herman’s Kristi Raue at the 3:08 mark of her quarterfinals match.
All three semifinalists will next compete at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. First, though, 11 other Washington County wrestlers will compete in consolation matches, which begin at 9 a.m.
Of those wrestlers, Blair’s Ali Wheeler (115 pounds) and Fort Calhoun’s Annaleigh McLaughlin (105) are 1-1 at state. Wheeler pinned Omaha South’s Liliana Serrano Felix first Tuesday in Class A competition before a loss in the quarterfinals, while McLaughlin produced a 9-6 overtime win in her opener before a defeat. The first win was Fort Calhoun’s first-ever state victory at the NSAA’s girls wrestling tournament.
BHS’ Reata Malmberg and Emma Belnog will compete Wednesday morning after 0-1 starts, too. They’ll be joined by Fort Calhoun’s Ali Dill and Anna Rae Hartline, and Arlington’s Rylie Kyllo, Callee Shearer, Caitlyn Camp, Dianna Flores and Addyson Beam, who are also 0-1.
