Arlington senior Kailynn Gubbels capped her final Eagles season with two gold medals Thursday during the NSAA Class B State Track and Field Championships in Omaha.
The future Iowa State Cyclone broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles (14.54 seconds) and won the 300 hurdles in 45.13 as the AHS girls earned a tie for third with 47 team points. Elkhorn North was first with 79.5 points, while Bennington notched 55.5 and Pierce also claimed 47 during the two-day event.
The Blair girls, meanwhile, took 27th. The BHS boys were 16th and Arlington was 39th. Fort Calhoun fell short of team points at Omaha Burke Stadium.
In addition to Gubbels' event wins, Eagles junior Keelianne Green finished second in the 800 run (2:17.78) and fourth in the triple jump (35 feet, 10.5 inches).
Blair's top finisher, sophomore Ethan Baessler, was third in the 100-meter dash. He finished in 10.99 seconds, while junior Nolan Slominski earned sixth in the 800 with a time of 1:59.44.
Two Washington County relay teams added medals on Thursday after three earned top-eight spots Wednesday. The Arlington girls' 1,600 team — Green, Gubbels, O'Daniel and Chase Andersen — earned third with a school record 4:01.86 time. Blair girls Makayla Baughman, Reece Ewoldt, Hailey Amandus and Schuyler Roewert finished seventh during the same event, clocking in at 4:06.68.
Kaylee Taylor, meanwhile, earned Fort Calhoun's top state finish as a freshman Thursday. She cleared 33 feet, 6.5 inches in the triple jump, earning 12th at Burke.

Full coverage of the state tournament will appear in next Tuesday's Washington County Pilot-Tribune.

Eagles' Green earns silver on Day 1
Green earned a second-place finish Wednesday, highlighting Washington County's first day at the state meet in Omaha.
The Eagle was the Class B long jump runner-up, while a pair of Blair relay teams claimed top-four finishes and an AHS one earned eighth.
Green cleared 17 feet, 9.25 inches, while the Blair boys' 3,200-relay squad earned a bronze medal. Slominski, Calin O'Grady, Ted Lueders and Caleb Funk finished their race in 8:07.02.

In addition to the medalists Wednesday, Gubbels (100 and 300 hurdles) and Baessler (100 dash) qualified for Thursday's finals with their prelim efforts.
