Sports in brief: Dance, trapshooting and Cubs baseball

BHS names new dance team
New Blair High School dance coach Sara Foulk recently announced the Bears' 2021-2022 roster.
Captains will be seniors Paige Daggett and Chloe Wolff, and junior Marissa Faue. They'll be joined by juniors Anna Stork, Chloe Schrick and Mallory Stirek, as well as sophomores Hannah Wolff, Alexis Hanson and Alexis Warner.
Freshman Hadyn Ferguson and Elizabeth Bray also made the team.
Dance practices begin this spring and will continue through the summer. Foulk said Blair will attend a camp during the end of June to work on technique and performances before the new school year. The Bears will then perform during home football and basketball games at BHS.

Blair, Fremont compete in ECTC
Blair Youth Shooting Sports, and trapshooters from Arlington and Fort Calhoun, competed in Eastern Conference Trapshooting Conference (ECTC) events last Saturday.
Dalton Nielsen led his Blair team in Bellevue for the senior division shoot. He shot 40 of the 50 targets he aimed at during the 22-23-yard handicap competition, finishing third.
Blair junior division marksmen, meanwhile, were in Papillion to compete. The team of Kalvin Kies, Harold Kies, Johnny Henton, Elijah Tabor and Bennett Mandarich took second with a 217-for-250 combined effort. Harold Kies was also second in the junior male standings for his 47-for-50 effort.
The Fremont trapshooting team, meanwhile, competed at the Valley trap range during the fifth week of the ECTC schedule.
Among the top finishers were Kaitlin Smith and Sam Arnett, who are from Fort Calhoun and Arlington, respectively. Smith earned first in the 16-yard female shoot, winning the shoot-off by one downed target.
Arnett, meanwhile, tied for third in the the 16-yard male shoot with a 49-for-50 regular round and a 23-for-25 shoot-off mark. John McKennan of Fort Calhoun was fourth.

Cubs baseball teams compete
Blair Cubs youth baseball teams competed and picked up wins recently.
The age 14 and younger team swept last Saturday's doubleheader against the Gretna B-52 Bombers. Blair won one game 9-7 with Cooper Sorensen, Thomas Chikos and Hudson Neuverth notching one RBI apiece. Sorensen and Chikos each struck out four Bombers, too.
During the 9-8 victory, Roman Gartin, Sorensen and Chikos notched two RBIs apiece. Nolan Birdsall and Carter Saylor, meanwhile, notched four strikeouts apiece from the pitching mound.
The age 12 and younger Cubs, meanwhile, went 1-1 in two recent games. They beat Hoseys Heroes on April 6, winning their home home opener 18-3.
Ty Tessendorf led Blair in victory with three hits, including two doubles. Nate Murray, Lane Christensen, Jonas Neuverth and Brooks Ray added two hits apiece, while Andrew Smutny and Tucker Storjohann pitched.
During a 14-3 loss to Fremont, however, it was Devin Larson, Christensen, Storjohann, Neuverth and Brevin Leggott picking up hits in defeat.
