Hansen does play-by-play for BTN Plus
Fort Calhoun High School graduate Grant Hansen was on the call for Nebraska baseball games against Minnesota last weekend.
The college student did play-by-play for the BTN Plus broadcast as the Huskers swept the Gophers at Haymarket Park. He recently also worked at the NSAA State Basketball Championships.
Hansen started FC Live Radio at FCHS and did streaming radio broadcasts for the Pioneers during his high school tenure.
Volk surpasses assist mark, earns scholarship
UNC-Asheville volleyball player Grace Volk became just the 13th Bulldog in program history to surpass 1,000 career assists.
The Arlington graduate, a Bulldog junior in North Carolina, moved past the mark and has 415 set assists this season. As of Monday, she's started all 14 matches this year and has 29 kills to go with 10 service aces.
Volk was also announced Monday as a recipient of the 2021 Goldwater Scholarship, a national award for undergraduate students in natural sciences, engineering or mathematics.
“Grace is an amazing player and an exceptional student,” said UNC-Asheville volleyball Frederico Santos in a school release. “She is such a wonderful example of the student athletes we have the privilege of coaching at Asheville.”
Larsen selected for all-star wrestling dual
Blair senior Dex Larsen was recently selected to compete in the NSWCA All-Star Dual.
The wrestling dual event is scheduled for June 9-12 in Grand Island.
Larsen was selected after a one-loss senior season at 195 pounds. The grappler claimed second in Class B before eventually attends Wayne State College next fall on a football scholarship. He was also selected to compete in the Nebraska Shrine Bowl all-star football game this summer.
Theiler claims GPAC honor
Doane University junior Andy Theiler was named the GPAC baseball player of the week Monday.
The Arlington graduate led the Tigers to a four-win week, notching hits in all six Doane outings. He scored a run in five of the six games and hit at a .440 average with 11 RBIs. He also went 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts.
Arlington swimmer competes at regionals
Arlington swimmer Elisabeth Meyer recently competed during the YMCA North Central Regional Championship Swim Meet in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Eagle, who competed with the Fremont Tigers during the high school season and, now, with the Fremont Area Swim Team (FAST), was a top-10 finisher in two of her age 13-14 races at the event. She was ninth in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.65 seconds and tenth in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.33.
Blair swimmers Ryleigh Schroeter and Jane Busboom also competed on the FAST team, combining for six top-10 finishes. Schroeter was third in the 100 backstroke, fourth in the 100 butterfly, fifth in the 200 IM and 10th in the 100 freestyle.
12U Cubs start with win
The Blair Cubs age 12 and younger baseball team won its season opener 12-4 March 26.
The Cubs beat Hoseys Heros with pitchers Lane Christensen and Calvin Johnk surrendering just four runs. Offensively, Ty Tessendorf hit a first-inning homer, while Tucker Storjohann and Brevin Leggott notched two hits apiece. Jaxon Logan added two RBIs, too.
Blair FC season begins
Blair Football Club (FC) soccer seasons were set to begin last week.
The recreational teams, ages 6-8, play Saturdays through May 15 on the fields next to the Youth Sports Complex. More information about Blair FC soccer can be found online at blairfc.com.
Schiemann signs with Arizona swimming
The University of Arizona Adaptive Athletics department is set to add swimming to its offerings and a former Arlington Eagle is its first signing.
Addie Schiemann, who attended AHS through her junior year, is a current Fremont Tiger set to become a Wildcat. The news was announced by Arizona Adaptive Athletics Director Pete Hughes during an online interview available to watch on the UArizona Adaptive Athletics Youtube page.
