With a chilly wind whipping, the Blair Youth Shooting Sports team competed last Saturday at Harry A. Koch Trap & Skeet in Omaha.
Elijah Tabor led the way at the third Eastern Cornhusker Trapshooting Conference (ECTC) shoot of the season, medaling third in the 20-21-yard Handicap event. The Senior Division marksmen shot 43 of the 50 targets he faces out of the sky, finishing one better than teammate Jacob Vanek.
Overall, BYSS' Weston Lupardus shot the highest percentage for the day, taking out 86 clay pigeons and missing just 14. He edged teammate Dalton Duane Nielsen, who also hit 86 targets, in the standings, while Gage Hearn finished with a score of 84. Vanek and Tabor were successful on 83 of their 100 shots for the day, too.
Blair's Wyatt Blackford (82), Morgan Shaner (82), Aaron Pierce (82), Carter Mandarich (82), Dalton Nielsen (82) and Ashton Tranmer (81) followed with success rates higher than 80 percent as well.
Pierce was his best in the 16-yard shoot, hitting 46 targets, while Lupardus, Dalton Duane Nielsen and Kalvin Kies hit 45.
The Blair Orange lineup — Lupardus, Dalton Duane Nielsen, Dalton Nielsen, Kies and Riley Brodersen — was sixth in the combined handicap events, while the Blair Gold team — Hearn, Vanek, Wyatt Blackford, Mandarich and Tranmer — was eighth in the 16s.
Jase Lantry, meanwhile, led BYSS at the Junior Division shoot in Papillion on Saturday. He blasted 40 of the 50 targets he faced, while both Tregan Baker and Jaydyn Backman took out 39.
Revlyn Rasmussen finished with a 38-for-50 score, while Colton Nixon shot 36.
The ECTC Seniors season continues Saturday back at Harry A. Koch Trap & Skeet. The Juniors will be back in Papillion, too.

Dowling, Stonehocker lead Arlington trapshooters
While teammate Daylon Heater led the way with his second-place overall finish, Kaleb Dowling of Arlington was his hometown's top finisher for the Fremont squad Saturday in Omaha.
Dowling hit 82 of his 100 targets during the third ECTC shoot of the season. Jacob Beans, meanwhile, shot 81 clay pigeons and Cade Arnett took out 80 during the Senior Division event.
Blake Japp — who performed his best in the 16-yard event, hitting 47 of his 50 shots — took out 79 targets as did Zane Gerrish.
Arnett's Fremont Black lineup, meanwhile, was first in the Handicap shoot, shooting 205 targets total.
At the Juniors shoot in Papillion, Arlington's Brayden Stonehocker led all Fremont shooters with a 44-for-50 performance. Wyatt Widman — another Arlington-area marksmen — was second for his team with a 44, too.
Both were members of the Fremont Black squad that earned first. They shot alongside Dalton Kumm, Gage Knoell and Hudson Knoell.
