Robert (Bob) Leland Gnuse, age 78, of Arlington, passed into Jesus’ arms April 23, 2021. His heart — full of construction blueprints, bowling strikes, bass choir parts, and quiet, helpful love — suddenly failed to keep up with his spirit.

Bob was a builder. Over his life, he constructed hundreds of homes, countless improvement projects, and a strong community of family and friendships. He lived out devotion to God by warm hospitality and skilled workmanship.

He was preceded in death by parents Ed and Meta (Scheer), brother Don, and brother-in-law Lee Mencke.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 Years, Ruth (Mencke); four sons, Douglas (LuAnne), Michael, David (Jennifer) and Matthew (Kris); two brothers, Gene (Clairice) and Al (Carol); brother-in-law Steve (Jaccie) Mencke; sister-in-law Lois Gnuse; nine grandchildren, Amber Ward, Adam Houghtelling, Hope Ziegler, Aiden Gnuse, Samuel Gnuse, Reid Gnuse, Eliana Gnuse, Elijah Gnuse, and Ezekiel Gnuse; and five great-grandchildren, Chandler Ward, Makenzie Ward, Anghus Houghtelling, Remi Ziegler, and Fisher Ziegler.

Bob spent his life doing what he loved to the very last moment. He will be missed by bowling and golf leagues, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church boards, the Pathfinder Chorus, and all children fishing at Gnuse Pond.

Services are at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Arlington. Viewing is at 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday. Funeral at 10:30 a.m., Thursday.

Interment and Military Honors at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
