Arlington senior Britt Nielsen scored her 1,000th career point Friday as the Class C1 No. 10 Eagles girls basketball team closed out the regular season with a 70-32 win against Louisville.
It took the forward a few third-period shot attempts to reach four figures, but when she did — with an off-glass shot from inside the lane — coach Tashia Wolf took a timeout to commemorate the career milestone.
“Before the season, I did calculate how many I needed to get 1,000 and I, honestly, had no faith in myself to hit it,” Nielsen said. “There's nothing else I can do except thank my teammates.”
It's been a joint effort in the standout's eyes.
“I'm just so blessed with who I am surrounded with,” she said. “I have an amazing coach. I have amazing teammates and my parents have always been so supportive.”
Altogether, Nielsen finished Friday's win with 23 points. Her team improved to 18-4 overall, while the visiting Lions dropped to 6-16.
AHS scored the first 24 points of the game, producing six from beyond the 3-point arc on Emme Timm and Hailey O'Daniel buckets. Louisville finally broke the scoring streak with its own 3, but Hayley Arp added her second bucket down the stretch to answer.
Ultimately, the Eagles led 26-4 through one quarter and pushed their advantage to 26 points during second. Nielsen's 3-pointer midway through the period pushed her game total to 14 — two shy of 1,000.
In celebrating Senior Night with Nielsen, O'Daniel and Libby Hegemann finished with seven and two points, respectively. Macy Wolf scored 14 points for Arlington as well, while school assists leader Emme Timm had nine points.
The Eagles next play 7:30 p.m. today during the Class C1-5 Subdistrict Tournament semifinals on their home court. As the top-seeded team, it'll face the winner of Monday's Wayne-Winnebago matchup. The finals will then be 6 p.m. Thursday at AHS.
