Age 13 and 14 baseball teams from across the country took on residences at Washington County fields last week during Omaha SlumpBuster tournament play.
Coinciding with the College World Series, the annual event has come to host games in Arlington, Blair and Fort Calhoun in addition to those in Omaha and Council Bluffs, Iowa, each June. The Washington County Fairgrounds diamond, Hardy Field, Vets Field and Post 348's home diamond all hosted matchups last Thursday through Saturday. They will again this Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Blair and Fort Calhoun, too.
Arlington will host games on just Thursday and Friday this week as well.
Last Friday morning, site directors across Washington County were complimentary of the weather as teams they'd more than likely never watched before the SlumpBuster arrived for unique matchups. Arlington hosted age 14 and younger teams from Colorado, California and Illinois that day along with one from Elkhorn. At the same time, Hardy Field hosted 13U squads from Minnesota, Arizona, Colorado and California at the Blair Youth Sports Complex.
Vets Field, meanwhile, had teams from Illinois, Minnesota, Texas and Nebraska City visit Friday morning into the afternoon. In Fort Calhoun, lineups from Texas, California, Colorado and Lincoln took their swings as well.
