Smutz caps senior season
Arlington High School senior Trenton Smutz closed out his final high school season with the Fremont Flyers on Feb. 22.
Alongside fellow hockey seniors Grant Pappas, Jackson Walvoord, Ryan Lee and Nate Koborg, the Flyers won 8-2 against Okoboji, according to a report at fremontflyers.org.
Smutz closed out his final varsity season with 11 goals and 10 assists. He played multiple games with his sister, Aspen, who also plays golf at AHS.
Smutz's older brother Austin — who also golfed at AHS — also remains involved in Fremont hockey after his playing career, coaching the Fremont Flyers Squirt Silver team.
Flyers host 'Outstate' series
The Tri City Jr. Storm of Kearney bested the Fremont Flyers during the last weekend's inaugural OutState Nebraska Junior High School Hockey Championship series at the Flyers' Sidner Ice Arena.
The age 14 and younger Bantam Storm team won games both Saturday and Sunday to secure the series, which celebrated hockey players from outside of Nebraska's two main hubs — Omaha and Lincoln.
Ollie Geiger of Fort Calhoun plays for Fremont's 14U Bantam Silver squad, which played Tri City, while Colton Cech of Arlington was also recognized during the series, according to a Fremont Flyers Hockey Facebook post.
