FCHS boys, Eagles' Green win conference titles

Washington County high school runners dominated Thursday's Nebraska Capitol Conference Championship cross-country meet in Ashland.
The Fort Calhoun boys earned the conference title ahead of the second-place Arlington Eagles, while the FCHS girls were second ahead of third-place AHS. The Douglas County West girls, meanwhile, won a team title as well.
The Pioneers' Ely Olberding and the Eagles' Keelianne Green earned individual conference championships, too. Olberding finished 5 kilometers in 16:51.07, while Green clocked in at 20:18.77.
Fort Calhoun's Lance Olberding (second), Maelie Nelson (fifth), Bria Bench (sixth), Kaitlyn Thalman (ninth) and Travis Sketon (10th) also earned top-10 results. Lance Olberding stopped the clock in 17:04.66, while Nelson finished in 20:48.32.
Arlington's Nolan May (third), Hailey O'Daniel (third), Kevin Flesner (fifth), Luke Hammang (seventh) and Kolby Tighe (ninth) also earned top-10 finishes in Ashland. May crossed the finish line at 17:18.12, while O'Daniel earned a time of 20:31.42.
Both the Pioneers and Eagles next compete Thursday at the Class C-2 District Meet at Sycamore Farms near Waterloo. The first race is set for 4:30 p.m.
