FCHS golf 5th, AHS 6th at conference tourney

2 Pioneers shoot career lows

The Fort Calhoun Pioneers took fifth and the Arlington Eagles sixth Thursday during the Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament at Country Drive Golf Course.
Coach Dustin Humphrey's Pioneers finished with 360 strokes, while coach Landon Walkenhorst's Eagles took 394 at the nine-hole course midway between Yutan and Ashland off of a winding rural road. The champion Logan View Raiders, meanwhile, carded 315 strokes — nine better than second-place Syracuse.
Tysen Sunderman led all Washington County golfers with 85 strokes. The FCHS standout tied for 14th overall with three golfers — Syracuse's Cade Stephenson and Brennen Schroeder, and Douglas County West's Nate Koborg — and finished a single swing better than teammate Caden Newman, who shot a career-low 86.
The Pioneers' Korbin Klein also shot a career-best score, finishing with 94 strokes, while teammate Adam Elofson had 95. Beau Ruma carded 104 swings as well.
Winston Slykhuis, meanwhile, shot Arlington's best score during the conference tournament. He finished with 94 strokes, tying for 24th overall, while both Schuyler Logemann and Hunter Wallace carded 99 swings.
The Eagles' Trenton Hansen added an 18-hole 102 to his team's score, while Nathan Erwin finished his round with 124 strokes.
AHS was set to play a triangular Monday in Fremont and next competes 9 a.m. Thursday during the Tekamah-Herman Invitational. FCHS will compete at the Tigers' tournament at Northridge Country Club as well.
