Clinging to a 36-35 lead for more than 2 minutes down the stretch, Arlington girls basketball junior Kate Miller pulled down a clutch defense rebound with just seconds remaining.
The Eagle was fouled, knocked down her foul shots and celebrated a 38-35 home victory with her teammates Friday night. The three-point win snapped AHS' four-game losing streak, improving its record to 7-11.
Junior Kailynn Gubbels led coach Luke Brenn's squad, scoring a game-high 24 points with an 8-for-9 night from the foul line. Miller, meanwhile, scored eight points, senior Kylee Bruning added four in her return to the lineup and Cassidy Arp had two.
The Cougars' Lindee Watson and Myah Cummings scored 11 points apiece, but their team couldn't overcome its scoring drought to close the game. Arlington outscored Conestoga 11-8 during the fourth period after the teams entered the final quarter even at 27-all.
The Eagles played a makeup game Monday night and are scheduled to play at Plattsmouth tonight.
