District Track Update: 36 county athletes qualify for state

Twenty-two Blair Bears, nine Arlington Eagles and five Fort Calhoun Pioneers qualified for the NSAA State Track and Field Championships on Tuesday during district competition.
The BHS girls finished third at the Class B District 4 meet in Columbus, while the boys were fourth. The AHS girls, meanwhile, were second at the same meet with the boys claiming eighth.
In Wahoo during the B-2 meet, the FCHS girls were fourth and the boys ninth.
The Bears' Calin O'Grady (3,200-meter relay), Nolan Slominski (3,200 relay and 800 run), Ted Lueders (3,200 relay), Caleb Funk (3,200 relay) and Ethan Baessler (100 dash) were all apart of event wins. The Eagles' Keelianne Green (long jump, triple jump, 800 run and 1,600 relay), Kailynn Gubbels (high jump, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 1,600 relay), Kaden Foust (long jump), Hailey O'Daniel (1,600 relay) and Whitney Wollberg (1,600 relay) were, too.
The Pioneers' top finishers, meanwhile, were Dala Drowne and Kaylee Taylor, who claimed second in the high jump and triple jump, respectively.
Next, the qualifying Blair, Arlington and Fort Calhoun athletes will begin state track and field competition 9 a.m. May 18 at Omaha Burke Stadium. The two-day Class A and B event continues 9 a.m. May 19 as well.
