Brodersen claims 1st from 22-23 yards at Cornhusker Trap Shoot

BHS shooter also takes 7th in high overall

Riley Brodersen set the standard from 22-23 yards Saturday during the 52nd Cornhusker Trap Shoot in Doniphan.
The Blair Youth Shooting Sports Senior Division shooter bested more than 450 competitors at the handicap distance, claiming first with a 60-for-75 showing with his shotgun. He earned the tiebreak from Mike Roddy and Spencer Landers amid windy conditions.
Brodersen was also seventh in the high overall standings during the regional event which saw 1,524 kids compete Friday during the 16-yard shoot. Overall, Blair's top finisher hit 128 of the 150 clay pigeons he fired at.
Ashton Tranmer of Blair, meanwhile, went 123-for-150 over two days of shooting. His shotgun destroyed 69 targets from 16 yards, which was the same total Harold Kies and Kalvin Kies took out Friday before finishing with overall tallies of 119 apiece.
Arlington's Cade Arnett finished with a 120, but also earned fifth behind Brodersen in the handicap shoot. He was 56-for-75 and bested Matthew Cejka of Lincoln by tiebreak.
In addition to Arnett, Arlington shooters Blake Japp (112), Jacob Vanek (112), Jacob Beans (109), Kole Dowling (105), John Von Behren (101), Alaina Schwedhelm (100) and Lane Johannes (100) hit at least 100 of the 150 clays they saw in Doniphan.
Blair's Dalton Duane Nielsen (118), Gaige Bolton (116), Gage Hearn (116), Weston Lupardus (116), Dalton Nielsen (109), Carter Mandarich (107), Triston Clausen (106), Hayden White (105), Bennett Mandarich (102), Kyle Gross (100) and Tyler Behnk (100) also topped 100 targets.
The Blair Purple team — Tranmer, Harold Kies, Gage Hearn, Dalton Nielsen and Elijah Tabor — finished 13th with 566 hits, which was 28 less than Millard West's first-place “A” squad.
Fort Calhoun individuals William Bogar and Ethan Shaner hit 105 and 104 targets, respectively.
Overall, Mitchell Pierson of Lincoln Southeast won the 16-yard shoot with a perfect 75-for-75, while Creedance Jankowski of Cougar 4H was the handicap champ with a 70-for-75 effort. It was Raymond Central's Mason Gerdes, however, who claimed the Cornhusker Cup title, shooting true on 136 of his 150 shots during the weekend event.

Stonehocker leads Junior shooters
Brayden Stonehocker of Arlington led all Washington County shooters in the Junior Division. He went 95-for-100 Thursday, finishing just outside of the top-20.
Arlington marksmen Wyatt Widman, meanwhile, shot 91 clay pigeons in Doniphan. Wyatt Flesner shot 88 and Ben Flesner finished with 80.
Johnny Henton of Blair went 87-for-100, while Colton Nixon took out 86 and Revlyn Rasmussen shot 83. Blair's Gold team finished with a combined 407.
Fort Calhoun's Connor Tobias finished 69-for-100, too.
Wyatt Happle of Beatrice won the Junior title, shooting all 100 clays out of the air. The shoot involved 935 kids, the second-highest total in the history of event, according to Nebraska Game & Parks.
