The Arlington Armadillos are the newest members of the Farmland Basketball League (FBL).
The adult town team league is in its 15th season overall with representation across seven eastern Nebraska communities. The Armadillos officially began play alongside the Dodge Gamecocks, the Howells Hooisers, North Bend, Pender, the West Point Cowtippers and the Wisner Beef when the 2022-23 campaign tipped off Dec. 4.
Arlington's team manager is Zach Helms, an AHS graduate whose hoops credentials include student assistant coaching at Wayne State College and the creation of the annual Arlo 2v2 summer tournament. He's joined on the Armadillos roster by Skyler Andrews, Jackson Borgmann, Zach Fitz, Ben Fullner, Joshua Hilgenkamp, Matthew Nelson, Zach O'Flaherty, Trevor Toebben, Logan Vie and Landon Walkenhorst, according to the FBL website.
Arlington lost its debut game at North Bend 90-76 despite 27 points by Borgmann, a former standout AHS Eagle and Nebraska Wesleyan college player. Nelson added 10 points and Hilgenkamp had eight, while both O'Flaherty and Fullner scored seven. Walkenhorst scored six points, Toebben had four and Andrews had three to go with Helms' two.
The Armadillos then dropped their home opener to West Point on Dec. 11, too, 80-54. Fitz scored 16 points and Borgmann had 12, but it wasn't enough.
Helms confirmed the cancellation of Arlington's scheduled Dec. 22 matchup with Dodge due to weather, but the Armadillos are set to return to FBL play Jan. 8 at Wisner. A home game is set for Jan. 22 against Pender, too.

Blair team won FBL's 1st title game
A Blair team won the inaugural Farmland Basketball League title game in January 2009.
The champions beat Scribner-Snyder 82-68 after a 4-2 regular season. Brett Cain (19.4 points per game) and Luke Beerbohm (13.8) were named to the All-Farmland team after the season, while Anthony Knight (14.6) claimed honorable mention.
Blair's Travis Svendgaard and Shane Morris also made the FBL's top-10 scoring list, averaging 8.3 and 8.2 points per game, respectively.
The championship run was Blair's lone season competing in the league.
