The Class C2 No. 3 Fremont Bergan Knights swept the Arlington High School volleyball team in three sets Tuesday.
“Tonight was a tough night,” Eagles coach Stacy Nelson said.
AHS lost the first set at home 25-8, the second 25-7 and the third 25-9. It fell to 0-6 in defeat.
Freshman Emme Timm led the Eagles in digs with six, while Lizzie Meyer and Austyn Flesner had two kills apiece. Peyton Timm added a service ace, too.
Across six matches, Arlington's lineup has transformed this season. Freshman Valeria Carvajal and sophomore Callee Shearer were among the players who earned more time on the court Tuesday than they had during the season opener Aug. 25.
“We're seeing some pretty good things out of some of our freshmen,” Nelson said. “A lot of aggressiveness.”
Emme Timm, however, has been Arlington's setter since the start of the campaign.
“I can't ask for anything more from Emme Timm,” Nelson noted. “She's everywhere hustling after every ball.”
Despite her efforts, though, Bergan won comfortably on the Eagles' home court. It improved to 7-1, taking double-digit leads in each set.
Down 22-7 in the third, though, AHS' coach still took a timeout.
“As a coach, I never stop believing that they can do it,” Nelson said. “I've seen their talent. I've seen how we can pass the ball and how we can change things around.”
The Eagles are winless this fall, but there's still more than a month of the season left.
“Volleyball is a game of momentum,” Nelson said, continuing her thoughts on Tuesday's third set timeout. “It takes one error and us to do the right things — put a ball down — and the momentum is back in our favor.”
