The Arlington Senior Legion baseball team traveled many miles June 15 and Thursday before returning home for a game with Battle Creek on Friday.
With the high-scoring, 18-9 loss to the Braves, the Post 71 Eagles closed the three-game stretch 1-2 and 7-8 overall.
Coach Ed Menking said a once tight game with Battle Creek grew more lopsided as it went on Friday. Trevor Denker had two hits, and Kaden Pittman, Wes Martens and Dalton Newcomer each scored two runs apiece, but the game was not close in the end.
“Not a lot of high spots,” the coach said.
Arlington led Pender 2-1 through 3.5 innings Thursday, too, but lost 8-2 after the home squad scored the next seven runs.
The Eagles, meanwhile, scored both of their runs during the top of the fourth frame. Nick Smith opened the inning with a single. He stole second base and Jack Bang plated him with another single.
After Newcomer walked and Darren Olson reached base on an error, Grant Staats put Post 71 ahead for a short time with his own RBI knock.
A day earlier, on June 15, the Eagles started their busy three-game stretch with a 6-3 loss at Pierce. Pittman hit 3-for-4 with a double in defeat.
Smith, meanwhile, threw five innings on the road. His team's loss followed a 3-0 Junior Legion shortcoming against Pierce, too.
The Arlington Juniors did beat Pender, 9-7, though.
