The Class C No. 9 Arlington baseball team came back from a 10-2 deficit during its regular season finale, but the Eagles couldn't do it twice.
Class B No. 5 Omaha Gross hosted and bested coach Tyler Stender's team, 20-10, Tuesday in six innings. AHS entered postseason play Thursday with a 10-9 record after the road loss.
The Eagles scored first, but were even with the Cougars through one frame, 2-2. Gross then scored eight runs in the second inning to claim a brief advantage.
Arlington was behind 10-2, but not for long as it scored eight of its own runs during the top of the third. The 10-10 ballgame remained until the Omaha squad scored 10 times across the fifth and sixth frames for a run-rule victory.
Trevor Denker and Kaden Pittman led the Eagles with three RBIs apiece. Pittman hit a 3-run homer during the third inning.
Braden Monke, Killian McIntosh and Darren Olson plated AHS runs, too.
Coach Stender's team was scheduled to open postseason play Thursday against Maxwell-St. Pat's in Central City. With a win, the Eagles would have advanced into today's district title game against top-seeded Central City/Fullerton/Centura or Louisville.
An update is to be published online at arlingtoncitizen.com/sports late tonight.
