In their first camp appearance since 2019, the Arlington High School cheerleaders attended and competed June 28 through July 1 in Kansas City, Kan., at the Great Wolf Lodge.
The Eagles' efforts resulted in top honors as they earned second in the sideline category of competition and first in the dance event. The first-place finish qualified AHS' standouts for an Outback Bowl football game appearance at the end of the year, coach Shelly Miller said.
“We had 11 girls on the team competing against teams that had 30 and 40 girls on their team,” she added. “The school and community can be very proud of the way this group of girls represented themselves.”
Seven Eagles were chosen to compete for All-American status in Kansas City with Kaylie Erwin and Mackenzie O'Flaherty earning the designation. Erwin and Libby Hall also competed in jumps with Erwin reaching the semifinal round.
Pin It Forward awards were awarded to three AHS cheerleaders for exemplifying the true meaning of being a cheerleader. They were Erwin, Jordan Tweedy and Brynn Eckhart.
Throughout the camp stay, the Eagles learned new cheers, sideline practices, dances and stunts. They were evaluated on their performance, earning superior ribbons, and were judged on each aforementioned category as well as overall spirit.
The full Arlington camp roster was Grace Carden, Jessica Chappelear, Eckhart, Erwin, Hall, Malayna Lozo, Olivia McClurg, O'Flaherty, Kayla Schwedhelm, Tweedy and Avalon Wright.
