Trey Hill, Collin Burdess and Aiden McDuffee claimed top-four finishes Friday as the Arlington wrestling team opened its season at the Columbus Lakeview Invite.
Hill bested McDuffee in the 113-pound third-place match, while Burdess claimed bronze at 182 for the 13th-place Eagles, who scored 33 team points. The host Vikings won their tourney with 209, while second-place Raymond Central tallied 166.5 points.
Hill and Burdess won three matches apiece to lead coach Doug Hart's squad. Hill pinned Ashland-Greenwood's Brandon Ott in 35 seconds, won a 2-0 consolation semifinals decision and topped his teammate, 3-2.
Burdess, meanwhile, started his senior year with an overtime victory over North Bend Central's Ian Virka. He later beat Wayne's Dakota Spann 6-2 before pinning Raymond Central's Logan Jelinek in 4:40 for third place.
McDuffee, Kolton Gilmore and JoeSeth McBride combined for three more Arlington victories, too. McDuffee won a 2-0 decision against Raymond Central's Elijah Ehlers, earning his third-place match against Hill, while Gilmore pinned North Bend's Joey Brodd at 170 pounds.
McBride, a heavyweight, secured a 24-second pin to start his season as well.
Today, the Eagles next host Fort Calhoun and Weeping Water for a triangular. Dual matches start at 6:30 p.m. inside AHS' Old Gym.
