Hello, all.
We had ourselves an extremely busy sports week in Washington County capped by five volleyball matches and eight softball games on Saturday.
I’m not kidding. That’s pretty good for only three schools, right?
So, as you can imagine, there were several Nannen & Harte Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week candidates for Arlington, Blair and Fort Calhoun. Here’s who I picked with a few details about why we’re celebrating these kids.

Dawson Fricke, Blair cross-country: The BHS senior was 10th at the predominately Class A Lincoln North Star Invite, finishing in 17:03.56. His coach, Carson Norine, didn’t know he was campaigning for Dawson when he answered questions about the senior’s race, but he sold me on his Athlete of the Week candidacy all the same.
“For Dawson to run in a Class A meet and place in the top 10 is a credit to how much work he’s put in over the last year,” the coach said. “He’s a phenomenal runner.”

Keelianne Green, Arlington cross-country: Every week that this senior Eagle runs, she’s Athlete of the Week material. The defending state champ has won each time she’s competed this fall, so its time I finally put the word out even further. The most recent example of her success was a 19:11 time Thursday at Fort Atkinson. She was 29 seconds faster than teammate Hailey O’Daniel for first.

Kaitlyn Welchert, Fort Calhoun softball: Across four games Thursday and Saturday, the Fort Calhoun slugger hit three home runs and notched 10 RBIs. She hit two homers Thursday against Arlington alone, pushing the Pioneers past their county rivals 10-4.

Let’s spread the word about Dawson, Keeli and Kaitlyn’s accomplishments. Share this article with your friends and family, and keep an eye out for the overall Washington County Athlete of the Week come Wednesday or whenever I get done editing the video interview.

Thanks for reading.
